Dora Hopes Wow, this is fabulous!

Michael Hooley There are a few people including me that are doubting that this is Northgate. your thoughts would be very welcome. there is some very interesting comments coming in on my other groups.

David Simmonds I doubted it, Michael, but - Snippit from Wakefield Free Press Saturday 17 October 1891

Malt Shovel Inn Northgate, Wakefield. It was there in 1846, too, according to the Leeds Times of Saturday 10 January of that year.

Harry Voltaire Holt Turner moved from the Waggon and Horses Inn to the Malt Shovel Inn on Northgate in February 1887.

He stayed there until April 1898, when he took over at the Saw Hotel.

Anne-marie Mcfarlane David Simmonds , my uncle was manager of the shop right on the end of the row where the car park is now. It was called BATCO and was a joinery DIY shop. A chapel or church on Northgate, though it looks like QEGS, but right on the roadside?

Went through those gates many a morning to work at my first job. Definitely Snapethorpe Hospital gates. I believe they have been left there but built behind them. Good memories.

Julie McAndrew Michael Hooley will try & get a pic for you & post. Forgot to say - the house at the right was The Porter's Lodge - not sure if that's still there.

Susan Thomson My Sister Maureen worked there in sterilising unit until it closed. Will try to find out the date. They were transferd to Pinderfields.
